i love to see these old motors get fixed and cleaned up
Thanks for the video. Picked up a similar Craftsman saw at an auction. Fuel line fell out when I pulled the starter rope. Watched your video, put in a new fuel line and it runs like a top!
I got the same chainsaw. It's over 30 years old. With a little maintenance as shown in this video, it will run great. The air filter material can be bought at Ace Hardware and cut it to fit.
Good video. Used as a resource to get my recently acquired Craftsman 18" saw going. It sat for at least 6 years, and was apparently put up with fuel in it.
Would have been a good idea to check the carburetor adjustment I like to see how you do the high speed and low speed adjustment
i have 2 craftsman’s just like it, probably the same year too! and a poulan that’s identical but green of course
I have almost this exact saw that was given to me and the fuel line has rotted away... This was the perfect vid to show me how to replace it. THANKS!
No primer bubble on this type saw and the carb has been totally apart so no gas .... and it starts 1st pull. Very good work.
Thanks! This is great. I watched it several time, but there are gaps, that you may take for granted. Like, re-threading the fuel line through the trigger.
Thanks for the video, I got mine for 10 bucks on craigslist, watched your video and spent a hour or so taking it apart and taking pics as I went for a reference. Then about 6 bucks at Rural King for a fuel filter a new plug and some fuel line and Im in the money. Thanks agian!!
It's gotta be a better working saw than those small Poulans etc . Seems to run strong !!
I wish they still made that good old fuel line it lasted way longer than the newer stuff my mcculloch 310 still has its original fuel line from the early 80s its black rubber and still soft and flexible
Thanks for the information, i got one of these for 3 bucks at a garage sale, fuel lines were rotted, but the engine had good compression, if it wasnt for youre video it would be in my trashcan
Good job, I've always liked the older craftsmen saws, is that early to mid 80's?
Hank, Actually, my saw is a 358.355162, but seems just like the one in your video. While removing the old fuel line, I discovered it is in two parts. A tiny fitting at the back of the handle, joins the two fuel line sections. It seem like the fitting will not pass through the handle, and holds the fuel line from more of it moving into the handle, from the tank side. Is this to prevent the fuel line from moving toward the trigger when being operated? Does the fuel line section on the trigger side have to be without slack, for the trigger to function properly? Thanks, Mike O
Had a very similar Craftsman on the bench 6 weeks ago. Didn’t even have to clean the carb. Filter was disintegrated . Customer said he would take of that. Ran like a champ. It was made by Poulan. Damn near all parts are NLA, including the carb. And if you source one, it’s more than the saw is worth.Good fix.
Thanks for the video, I have my dads old Craftsman saw just like that one this thing is has got to be at least 35 years old he bought it new and took very good care of it in fact he was a small engine repair guy like yourself. The saw had not been run for about 10 years so I decided to put fresh gas in it and fire it up. WRONG!
Love the channel man keep it up God Bless
What is the fuel ration on this chainsaw? And what size is the engine in cc's ?
We just found my grandfathers saw which is identical to this. Do you know the year by chance?
